What samples can be used with Microdx?

Which samples can be used for Micro-Dx™?

Micro-Dx & Clinical sample
For Micro-Dx™ the following clinical samples are applicable:

  1. Body fluids: e.g., whole blood (EDTA- or citrate-stabilized), pleural fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, ascites aspirates, broncho-alveolar lavage, blood cultures, joint aspirates, liver abscess puncture fluid, plasma, platelet concentrates, pericardial effusion, urine
  2. Tissues: e.g., abscesses, aorta, artificial tissues, biopsy sphenoid sinus, bone marrow, heart valve biopsies, hematoma, lung tissues, mucus, pacemakers, paraffin blocks, pericard, prosthesis (e.g., heart valve)
  3. Swabs: e.g., bones, mouth, nasopharynx, wounds
  4. In general, Micro-Dx™ is designed for the analysis of primary sterile samples. Therefore, feces, skin washes, and all samples with a natural microbiome are not validated.

In particular, the following sample materials are inappropriate for the Micro-Dx™ protocol:
  1. Gelatinous samples (e.g., sputum)

  1. Cell cultures

  1. Blood cultures with activated carbon

  1. Swabs on agar gel media
